Mission

JACC’s goal is to promote the well-being and quality of life of African refugees, asylum seekers, and stateless individuals living in Jerusalem.  

The organization will serve as a welcoming, homely, and communal space, operating according to values of equality and human rights.  

The organization will strive to address all the community's needs, including leadership development, community resilience, education, welfare, employment, and rights’ advocacy.

The organization will engage municipal institutions in Jerusalem and partners to maintain dialogue, foster good relationships, and promote mutual understanding between Jerusalem’s diverse communities.

 

Who We Are

JACC began its activities in 2007 when the first refugees arrived in the city, as a local initiative of Jerusalem-based volunteers and community members. In 2014, it was officially established as an NGO co-managed by the community.  

There are 2,500 refugees and stateless individuals in Jerusalem, most of them families, including 650 children and youth born in Israel. The parents came from Eritrea, Ethiopia, and Sudan.

 

We operate in the following areas:  

- Rights advocacy 

- Psycho-social assistance  

- Adult education

- Youth and children's activities  

- Professional training and community events  

 

Our activities are designed to meet the community’s needs and are conducted in partnership with local initiatives.

All JACC’s programs and services are funded by foundations and private donations. Thanks to the dedication of hundreds of committed volunteers and a small professional staff, we have been working for a decade alongside the refugee community in the city and for a better, more tolerant society.
